This volume contains the proceedings of the Eleventh British National Conference on Databases, held at Keele University in England. A dominant theme in the volume is to provide resources to enhance the capabilities of databases to manage data that has a rich semantic structure. An essential investigation question is how to reach such a wide net in place with out sacrificing performance. There are presently two significant paradigms in which it is feasible to suggest answers to this question, much less oriented and object-oriented. The two paradigms are nicely represented in this collection, with the scales in favor of the deductive approach, followed by two invited papers, by Michael Freestone’s European Study Centre of the computer market, Munich, Carlo Zaniolo, University of California at Los Angeles. In addition, the volume of 13 full papers selected from a total of 36 bids.
