Database Semantics: Semantic issues in multimedia systems reflects the state of the art new investigation on the significance of multimedia data, presented at the eighth IFIP Working Conference Information semantics (DS-8), organized through its Working Group 6.2 Databases and held in Rotorua, New Zealand, in January 1999. DS-8 was designed as an active forum for researchers and practitioners focusing on problems concerning the semantics of the info displayed, stored and manipulated by multimedia systems. Depending on the substance and status of analysis, the questions will be deeply theoretical and practical, or both. These proceedings contain 21 articles carefully selected by an international program committee and organized in six thematic areas: the video data modeling and use of image databases, applications, multimedia systems, Multimedia modeling in general, multimedia data, semantics and metadata.
