One weakness of Java has been its graphics capabilities. Java 1. and 1.1 contained only basic primitives for line drawing: lines could only be a pixel wide, they would only be solid, and there was no good way to draw curves. Font management and color management had been also weak. Java 2D (collectively referred to as the “2D API”) marks a considerable improvement in the graphics capabilities of Java.
