This volume presents the steps for a workshop on systems of parallel databases organized by Prism (parallel inference machine and storage) project. Invited contributions by internationally recognized specialists to give a comprehensive overview of numerous aspects of systems of parallel databases. The second part of the volume gives a detailed overview of the PRISM program. This system is based on a parallel machine, where different processors has its own nearby memory and communicate with each other on a switched network. On this machine, a parallel object-oriented programming, pool-X, has been implemented, which gives support for database systems and public facilities for parallel programming. The X-POOL functions as a platform for a system of comprehensive database of primary memory relational database, which uses the parallelism of the machine significantly accelerate query performance.
