Researchers in data management have recently recognized the importance of a new class of data-intensive applications that require management of data flow, ie, data comprising sequences of continuous real-time object . Streaming applications pose new and interesting challenges for data management systems. These application areas require continuous evaluation issues as opposed to the assessment once a problem for traditional applications. Streaming data sets grow continuously and queries must be evaluated in such unlimited amount of data. These, and other challenges requires a fundamental rethink of almost all aspects of managing traditional databases such as support for streaming applications. Stream Data Management comprises eight invited chapters by researchers active in stream data management. The collected chapters provide exposition of algorithms, languages, and systems proposed and implemented for managing streaming data. Stream Data Management is designed to Stream Data Management (Advances in Database Systems)
